CLASSES

Engine Company Operations

The basic unit of the fire service.  Every fire department has an engine, so everyone should review the operations.  This class will build on the skills you already have and show you how the DCFD “runs the line.”

Truck Company Operations

just as every fire needs water, they also need the trucks operations.  Here we will hit heavy on three of these operations:

  • Forcible Entry….we can’t fight the fire if we can’t get in.
  • Ladders….if you have members operating on upper floors, we must raise ladders for their safety.
  • Venting….fires make a lot of nasty gases and smoke that can hurt and kill the trapped civilians and the operating firefighters.

Rescue Company Operations

Photo by Patrick Shoop, JrThe rescues in DC have one responsibility- search for trapped occupants.  In this session, we will practice some of the techniques to ensure a rapid and thorough search of the fireground.

Firefighter Survival

Photo by ALLHANDSFIRE.COMEvery fire needs engine, truck and rescue operations and every firefighter needs skills to help them survive.  We will cover these:

    • Flashover….the ever popular Can.  You will learn how to recognize and survive a firefighter’s worst mightmare, the flashover.
    • Escape….you need to get out and get out fast.  Here is how.
    • SCBA combat drills….the most important tool a firefighter carries needs some training time.
